1.20. How do I use Mailman with Redhat Linux?

If you are using Redhat Linux, note that many of the older RPMs they provide are known to be broken.

If you search the archives of the mailman-users mailing list, you should be able to easily find messages such as <http://mail.python.org/pipermail/mailman-users/2003-June/029915.html> and <http://mail.python.org/pipermail/mailman-users/2003-April/028219.html>, which discuss bugs specific to the RPMs provided by Redhat.

If you search the archive of Redhat bugs, you should be able to easily find such pages as <http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/long_list.cgi?buglist=88083> and <http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/long_list.cgi?buglist=89695>, both of which reference <http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2003-179.html>.

You can either get the latest RPMs from Redhat (which may be based on more recent versions of Mailman), or you can install Mailman from source.

Either way, these problems are NOT bugs in Mailman. These are errors introduced during the process of building the binary packages.
